About DiversAsia

The primary aim of the DiversAsia project is to ensure that students with disabilities can enjoy the same access to higher education (HE) as their peers, especially with regards to digital training materials, including Open Educational Resources (OERs) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). One of the core objectives is to enhance the capabilities and resources of HEIs in India and Bangladesh so they can cater to a diverse student population, especially those with learning disabilities. This involves providing inclusive education training and tools to the staff of these institutions. The training would incorporate guidelines, checklists, and leading-edge practices, all of which would adhere to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

Further, there is an emphasis on evaluating the current state of OERs and MOOCs in both countries. For this purpose, a Validation Guidelines Toolkit has been introduced that assesses the accessibility level of these digital resources. This is crucial to ensuring that all students, irrespective of their abilities, can benefit from them. Moreover, there's a concerted effort to ensure that HEIs are not only aware of these accessible resources but also actively incorporate them into their curriculum and teaching methods.

In line with these goals, several products have been developed. The "DiversAsia handbook" offers strategies that address the challenges of inclusion, diversity, and cultural differences in HEIs in Asia, specifically in the 21st century. An "Innovative Toolkit" has been curated, which provides guidelines, checklists, and best practices to efficiently implement the Universal Design for Learning. Additionally, an "Innovative Assessment and Validation Strategy" has been created for OERs (SCORM) and MOOCs. Its main function is to review and assess the accessibility level of these resources, providing feedback and recommendations for revisions that would enhance their accessibility.
